Spring Roof Inspection

Spring sprung nearly a month ago – hard to believe, but it now seems to be true. Now it’s time to get outside and take a look to see what old man winter has treated your roof.

The weather conditions here in New England can be brutal on your roof. It is constantly expanding, contracting, drying, cracking and deteriorating. Inspecting your roof after a harsh winter can help you avoid a potential failure.

Looking skyward – here’s what to keep an eye out for.

Cracked caulk or rust on flashing.

Shingles that are curling or blistering

        Missing shingles

Cracking or worn rubber boots around vent pipes

Roof growth – moss or lichen…could be a sign your roof is rotting.

Popped nails

Look for loose metal and vinyl flashing around chimneys, skylights,    and attic vents.

Find any of the above? Now what? Well, it needs to be addressed. Any of the issues above can lead to roof failures and can create a myriad of problems for many areas of your home.

Be sure to find a licensed, insured, contractor. Ask about the warranty on materials and labor. Request a written estimate. Ask for references – and addresses of area roofs the contractor has completed. Be sure the materials are top notch such as Certainteed products. It can make all the difference to your home over the life of the roof.
