Reconnoiter Your Roof!

Sooner than later your roof will be covered with snow and ice. Is it up to the challenge of a long, frigid Connecticut winter??? At what point should you consider replacing your roof, as opposed to fixing it? The typical home will have a roof made of asphalt shingles which will typically last around 20 years. How old is your roof? Was it already there when you purchased your home? Before the flakes begin to fly, it is a great time to make sure your roof can make it through the winter.

Maybe you’ve been experiencing some issues. Notice a water spot on the ceiling? One spot – maybe just a repair needed…more than one…may need replacement. Notice missing shingles? A shingle or two – maybe a repair. Missing shingles scattered over different areas of the roof – most likely a replacement scenario.

November is nearly half over already. Don’t wait until there is a foot of snow to find out your roof has issues. Keep an eye on the weather. During the next rainstorm take the time to inspect the interior of your home. Keep a keen eye on the ceilings. Any appearance of moisture or discoloration needs to be observed. A small spot can seem insignificant, but don’t be deceived. Water is pervasive, aside from the obvious marks. What is lurking behind your drywall can be detrimental to your home and your health.

Wet rotten wood within your ceiling or walls has the potential to weaken the structure of your home. The byproduct of moisture, mold can be truly detrimental to you and your family’s health. Assuring your roof is capable of protecting your home from water is vital to the long term value of your home. Addressing problems before they create widespread damage is crucial. Keeping an eye on your roof will certainly help you avoid major problems with the structure and integrity of your home.
