Looking to improve your view? Make your home more energy efficient? Replacement windows can reduce your energy bills and improve the look, and value of your home. Double hung vinyl windows are virtually maintenance free. If your windows have seen better days, maybe the time has come to replace them. If you are curious about what you have – time to grab your trusty tape measure and see how they measure up.
Measure the width first:
Check the width at the bottom, middle and top of the opening - on the inside of the jamb. Houses as well as windows settle – use the smallest measurement to determine the width.
Measure the height next:
Place the tape measure at the highest spot on the window sill – close to the inside of the window. Be sure to measure your window sill on the left, right and in the middle. Settling – remember. Again – pick the smallest of the height measurements.
Now measure the Depth:
Place your tape measure at the inside window trim – measure out to the exterior trim. You should have a depth of at least 3.25 inches – any less will not allow for replacement.
Always measure twice – a little extra time taken to get accurate dimensions will save headaches in the long run. So sharpen up your pencil and be ready to take notes.
