Written by Susan Carroll Dwyer | Sun, Oct 30, 2016 @ 07:27 PM

We are now midway into the 4th quarter – not on the gridiron…the tax quarter. Time to think about deductions for the year. There are a number of tax credits available for home improvement projects.

Tax credits can make a dent on your tax return and in return…reduce your energy usage as well. A credit of up to 10% on a project up to $500. Roofing, insulation, windows, doors and skylights which can qualify if they are energy star compliant.

In order to receive your tax credit you need to include a Manufacturer’s Certification Statement. This is a signed statement from the manufacturer certifying that the product or component qualifies for the tax credit.

You may find Manufacturer’s Certification Statement on their product website. Call the manufacturer, or search their website. The EPA doesn’t have copies of the Manufacturer's Certification Statement. Taxpayers must keep a copy of the certification for their records, but do not have to submit a copy with your tax return.

With winter gearing up to lash your home with blustery winds, snow and ice. What better time to consider an improvement project? The benefits being two fold, it’s a no brainer!
