The US government is offering homeowners an energy tax credit of up to $500 towards the cost of certain roofing materials if they purchase them by December 31, 2011. These modifications must be for your existing, owner-occupied residence, not a rental property or a newly constructed home. 

What Roofing Materials Qualify for the Tax Credit?

The 2011 federal energy tax credit covers 10 percent of the cost of the reflective roofing materials (not counting installation) up to a $500 maximum. Qualifying materials include Energy Star rated metal roofing products with appropriate pigmented coatings and Energy Star rated asphalt roofing products with appropriate cooling granules.
